Inventory of impacts of cooling water consumption by power plants within the Rhine Basin

As part of our SES project, in late 2022 Rijkswaterstaat commissioned Deltares to conduct an inventory of impacts of cooling water consumption by power plants within the Rhine Basin. This information we will use for calculations on water availability and low flow in the Rhine River and its main tributaries.

The CHR met live in France (Antony, close to Paris). A technical visit brought the members to the freshwater reservoir of Paris, the Montsouris reservoir. An insight was given into how the water distribution in the city is organised.

Summary

The CHR members met online and discussed the agenda plus documents. On day 1 we all said good-bye to our CHR representative of the Land Hessen, Dr. Gerhard Brahmer.

The distribution of water is due to big spatial and time differences. In order to better understand the hydrological processes of the water cycle and to define those in numbers, the hydrography of Austria observes rainfall, discharge of our waters and groundwater. Division I/3 coordinates the actions of hydrography in Austria and publishes data, evaluations and predictive analyses.
